Water issues aren’t always obvious, but a few common signs can indicate it’s time to take a closer look:
- Persistent scale on faucets or appliances (a sign of hard water)
- Drinking water with a chlorine smell or taste
- Rust-colored stains in sinks or toilets
- Cloudy or discolored water
- Unpleasant smells or tastes in your tap water
- Low water pressure caused by sediment buildup
Even if you haven’t noticed these issues, a simple water test can uncover less obvious factors that affect your home’s water quality, plumbing lifespan, and your family’s well-being.
It depends on what’s in your water and what matters most to you. Here’s the breakdown:
Water Softeners: Best if you’re dealing with hard water. They remove minerals like calcium and magnesium, which cause scale buildup that can shorten the lifespan of appliances and plumbing.
Whole-House Filters: Ideal for improving taste, smell, and clarity by removing chlorine, sediment, and other impurities. We carry filtration systems that also tackle PFAS, lead, floride, and other more harmful contaminants. However, these filters don’t soften water.
Many homeowners benefit from a combination of both—softer water protects appliances, and filtered water offers better taste and peace of mind. Every home’s needs are different, so, and we hate this answer but "it depends."
Not really—hard water isn’t typically harmful to your health. In fact, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium, which aren’t bad for you (although the modern diet has plenty). But hard water can cause a few headaches around your home, including:
- Dry skin and brittle hair due to mineral buildup.
- Soap scum in showers and sinks, making cleaning tougher.
- Shortened lifespan of appliances like water heaters and dishwashers, as scale builds up inside.
- Reduced water pressure from clogged pipes over time.
A water softener doesn’t just “soften” water—it helps prevent these issues by removing hardness minerals, which can extend the life of your appliances and improve water flow.
Reverse osmosis is one of the most effective ways to filter drinking water, removing up to 99% of common contaminants. An RO system can reduce or eliminate:
- Lead, arsenic, and heavy metals
- Pesticides, nitrates, and chlorine
- “Forever chemicals” (PFAS)
- Bacteria and viruses
While no system can provide “perfect” water outside a lab, RO filtration comes close—offering clean, crisp water that’s safer and tastes great.
No, water softeners only remove hardness minerals (calcium & magnesium). If your water contains chlorine, heavy metals, or organic contaminants, you’ll need a whole-house filtration system or reverse osmosis system in addition to a softener.
• Water Softeners: Require salt refills (typically once a month) and occasional cleaning.
• Whole-House Filters: Need filter changes every 6–12 months depending on water quality.
• Reverse Osmosis Systems: Require membrane replacement every 2–3 years, plus pre/post-filter changes every 6–12 months. If you choose an RO with a holding tank, we'll clean that every time we're out too.
If you have well water, a UV light is highly recommended to kill:
• Bacteria (E. coli, coliform)
• Viruses and pathogens
• Other microorganisms
Municipal water is typically treated with chlorine, but well water has no built-in disinfection, making UV a smart addition.
Yes! Our smart water management systems, powered by DROP technology, allow you to monitor and control your water softeners, filters, pumps, and leak detectors—all from an easy-to-use app. You can track water usage, receive alerts for potential issues, and even shut off your water remotely if a leak is detected. It’s a great way to stay connected and protect your home’s water quality, wherever you are. Don't want to watch it? We're happy to handle it for you.
• Water softeners: 10–15 years (with regular salt refills and maintenance)
• Whole-house filtration: 5–10 years (with filter replacements)
• Reverse osmosis systems: 10+ years (with membrane and filter changes)
• UV purification systems: 8–10 years (bulb replacement every year)
Regular maintenance extends the lifespan of your system.
Some under-sink filters and small RO systems are DIY-friendly, but most systems (whole-house filters, softeners, UV lights, and well water treatments) require professional installation to:
• Ensure proper plumbing connections
• Optimize system efficiency
• Avoid leaks or damage
